Gerard Butler misses home

SCOTTISH hunk Gerard Butler misses his homeland – despite the fact that he moved away as soon as he graduated in the early nineties.
The actor now lives in the US, but says that his heart will always be in Scotland.
He said: “I miss the people and the countryside. Scotland is such a beautiful country and I know that whenever I return and look at that it’s like big therapy for me, everything relaxes, and I’m inspired and relaxed all at once.”
The P.S I Love You and 300 star insists that it isn’t just the beautiful countryside that he misses, but also the banter of the Scottish people.
He said: “I also miss the people, the humour.
“I was out with a buddy of mine in New York who is Scottish and my side was splitting, just the way he said things.
“I miss that about being in Scotland – that sense of humour, that sharpness.”
But if rumours are true, Butler may soon be back in the country making a new film about the life of Robert Burns – a project he has always been keen to do.
His high-flying Hollywood career takes him all over the world from his base in America – and it’s not just his homeland that he’s missing out on.
The 39-year-old revealed that he’s been unlucky in love – although he credits his loneliness with the success he has achieved.
He said: “It would be great to settle down but at the same time I sometimes think if anything had happened differently and I was in a long-term relationship I wouldn’t be where I am now in my career.
“If I’d had to make the sacrifices that a relationship would have required, I’d probably be a lot happier in some respects, but I wouldn’t have been as successful.
“I wouldn’t have advanced as far in my career.
“A lot of happiness comes out of the excitement of watching your career progress and jump forwards and there’s also a lot of happiness you can get out of being in love and being in a relationship.
“The comfort and foundation you take from that is not something you get when you’re being crazy busy and successful and travelling all over the place because at the end of the day you’re not in a relationship.”
The Paisley-born star shot to fame in the 2006 film 300 where he played King Leonidas and hasn’t looked back.
And earlier this year he was tipped as one to watch in 2009 by one of the world’s leading advertising agencies – JWT.
2009 sees the heartthrob on the screen in two new films – The Ugly Truth, a romantic comedy with Katherine Heigl, and lending his voice for The Mariner in the animated film Tales of the Black Freighter.

A few things… Gerard Butler is 39 and ,unless he specifically told you differently, his home in the US is in New York. He keeps a second place in LA because he has to be there a lot for his career but it’s not his primary US residence.

Thank you for the article. I’ve been to Scotland, and hope to return later this year, and it is, indeed, a beautiful country. And some of the friendliest, most helpful people I’ve ever met anywhere. I miss it and can well believe it’s native sons would miss it terribly. Very nice profile.

I know how he feels. I’ve lived in the U.S for 8 years now, and I have managed to go home once a year luckily. However, there are certain aspects you do miss about home – the banter, definitely.
Not so much the weather but the banter is just something purely Scottish and hilarious.
There are few things funnier than a Scotsman trashtalking—about himself no less.
I can relate to that.
