POLICE are hunting a vicious gang after a late night assault left their young victim in intensive care.
The 23 year-old victim was punched and kicked to the ground by three thugs in a “horrific attack” in Hunter Square, Edinburgh at about 2.40 on Saturday morning.
He was rushed to the city’s Royal Infirmary where he was immediately taken into the intensive care unit for treatment to a serious head injury.
The first suspect is described as white, between 20 -22 years old, around 5 foot 9 inches tall and has short ginger hair. He was wearing a dark blue t-shirt and jeans.
One of the other attackers was wearing a white t-shirt, but the unnamed victim was unable to give police a further description.
A police spokesperson said: “This has been a horrific unprovoked attack which has left a young man very seriously injured.
“The area would have been relatively busy around that time with revellers heading home from nights out in the area.
“We would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time, and who saw what happened, to get in touch. Alternatively we would like to hear from anyone who recognises the description of the suspect to come forward.”
The young man has been released from hospital by doctors and is expected to make full recovery.
