Police confirm remains found at Edinburgh flat are that of missing Samantha Wright

POLICE have this morning confirmed remains found at an address in Edinburgh are those of missing Stevenage woman Samantha Wright.

Inquiries are ongoing at a property in Magdalene Drive in the Duddingston area of the city which has been sealed off while forensic teams hunt for clues.

Samantha, who had been living in Edinburgh, was last known to be in the east end of the city on June 12th 2008.Contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131

Concerns for her safety grew after she failed to contact her family in Stevenage for Christmas, or her birthday on January 5th, and a missing person investigation was launched.

A 57-year-old man has been charged in connection with the discovery and was due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today. 

Police said they remained eager to speak to anyone who may have further information as to Samantha’s last known movements and ask them to contact detectives at Lothian and Borders HQ immediately.

Chief Inspector Paul Bullen said: “It is with great sadness that we bring our missing person investigation to a close and must now begin a new line of enquiry to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.

“We still however, do not know what happened to Samantha between being viewed on CCTV footage in the East end of Edinburgh and being found here in Magdalene Drive.

“Anyone who may have seen her after the 12th June 2008 and has information that can help us with our investigation is urged to contact police immediately.”
