By Shaun Milne

POLICE in Edinburgh are hunting a knifeman who robbed a man near the city’s High Street on Sunday.

Detectives said the victim – a 22-year-old man – was forced to hand over a small sum of cash but was unhurt in the drama.

The incident happened at around 10.50pm on steps leading up from Market Street towards North Bank Street – in a close known locally as New Steps.

The mugger then escaped towards the High Street.

He was described as being white, stocky, aged between 30-40 years old, 5ft 8/9ins tall and with short thinning light brown hair.

He spoke with a Scottish accent, and was wearing a dark sports jacket with a zip up the middle, and dark trousers.

A Lothian and Borders Police spokesperson said: “Fortunately no one was injured in this incident, but we would appeal for anyone who was in the area at the time, and who saw what happened, to contact us.

“We would also like to hear from anyone who may recognise the description of the suspect.”?

Anyone with information about the incident was asked to contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131.
