Body found in close next to World's End pub on Royal Mile

A MAN’S body was found lying in a lane next to the World’s End Pub on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile.

The grim discovery was made in World’s End Close, at around 7pm last night.

A member of staff at the well-known city-centre bar which neighbours the close, said police had been coming in and out all day today to speak to customers who might have information.

He said: “I wasn’t working when the body was found, but one of my customers was in earlier saying he had seen a big police presence just outside.

“No one is really sure what happened yet – the police are being very tight-lipped.

“But the way I’m hearing it through the grapevine is that it was a junkie who had died out there.”

Lothian and Borders police have launched an investigation into the man’s death and are appealing for information from the public.

A police spokesman said the death is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious.

He said: “Police are making inquiries into the unexplained death of a male whose body was found in a close off the High Street around 7pm on Wednesday night.

“Inquiries are ongoing in order to establish the circumstances of his death, and anyone with any information that can assist should contact police immediately on 0131 311 3131.”
