Fife teenager fought off attacker after being followed

By Christine Lavelle

A 15-YEAR-OLD girl was attacked and indecently assaulted by a man in Glenrothes as she walked home from the town centre.

Police said the teenager was subject to a sexual assault shortly before 10pm on Monday before she managed to fight off her attacker and run away.

Detectives believe she was followed from the town centre for some time before the attacker sprang.

The incident happened as she walked along Glamis Path, near Beaufort Drive, and Fife Police are now appealing for witnesses.

Detective Sergeant Alex Raeside is leading the investigation and said: “It appears that this young girl may have been followed by her attacker from the town centre area for some time and then subjected to an assault of a sexual nature.

“The man has been described as in his late 30’s, 6ft in height with short brown hair, wearing a white polo shirt with writing on the front of it and dark jeans.

“He was of a heavy build with a large belly.

“I would appeal to anybody who may have witnessed this man’s activities or recognise him from the description to contact Fife Police on 0845 600 5702 or Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.”
