Teaching them at an early age teaches them responsibility. I was taught as a teenager and the first thing I was taught was safety.

Always treat a gun as if it is loaded, even if it isn’t.
Always treat it as a tool and not as a toy.
Don’t shoot at targets on the horizon as you don’t know what is behind it.
Do not load the gun unless you are ready to shoot.
