Shoppers queue round the block to get the perfect Christmas turkey

SHOPPERS queuing round the block in snow, ice and freezing temperatures may sound like something from Communist-era Eastern Europe.

But these scenes were captured in a well-heeled suburb of the Scottish capital today (Thu) as shivering consumers waited for their Christmas turkeys from a local butcher.

Customers lined the Stockbridge street for more than an hour as the thermometer showed minus three degrees C.

John Black, 63, travelled all the way from Joppa on the other side of the city to get the traditional ingredients for his festive dinner.

The taxi driver said: “I’ve been coming here for 15 years and every year it’s the same. People queue up because it’s the best – simple as that.”

Victoria Watson, 27, an administration assistant from Stockbridge, said: “We got the choice of day to come and collect our orders.

“I think queuing is all part of the atmosphere – this is the first time I’ve used this place so I’m expecting a lot.”
