Group of men target Edinburgh convenience store

TWO shopkeepers were ambushed by a group of men who raided a convenience store and stole more than £1,000.

Five or six men are believed to have entered Sandy’s Store in the Granton area of Edinburgh yesterday at around 10.10pm as the two employees were locking up.

They were taken to the back of the shop and held there while members of the group scoured the store for cash.

The group made off with a four figure sum of money after activating the alarm system.

All of the suspects were wearing gloves and either hoods or balaclavas to cover their faces.

Police are appealing for information and are enquiring as to whether there is any CCTV in the area which may assist them in catching the culprits.

A spokesperson for the Lothian and Borders force said: “This has been a terrible experience for the shop staff who, although uninjured, have been left understandably shaken as a result.

“We are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area at the time, and who may have noticed a group of men acting suspiciously, to contact police.”

Anyone with information should contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
