Elderly woman robbed of handbag and groceries as she walked home

AN ELDERLY woman was assaulted and robbed as she walked home on Saturday afternoon.

The 84-year-old was on Findhorn Place, in Edinburgh’s upmarket Grange area at around 3.30pm, when a man approached her.

Following a struggle, the man – who was around 25-years-old – made off with her handbag and groceries.

A police spokesman said the woman was left “extremely shaken”.

The suspect was wearing a beanie hat over his short hair, a dark waterproof jacket and dark trousers.

He is described as being of a slim build, with a rounded face, dark eyes and a “fresh” complexion.

Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information should phone 0131 311 3131 or Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111.
