Woman dies after being hit by train at level crossing

A WOMAN has died after being struck by a train at a level crossing.

The incident happened shortly after 9am today (Wed) at the crossing in the village of Markle, near East Linton in East Lothian.

The woman, who is believed to have been in her mid-40s, was hit by the Doncaster to Glasgow service on the East Coast Main Line.

She has not been identified.

A spokesman for the British Transport Police said the death was “not suspicious” and enquiries were ongoing.

The main east coast line was closed between Edinburgh and Dunbar for around three hours, affecting including trains from England and local services to North Berwick.
