Man battered for smartphone

The gang beat the man up but stole just his iPhone

A GANG punched and kicked a man unconscious on Halloween night – for his iPhone.

The horrific night attack happened when the man and his girlfriend were only seconds away from their home in Edinburgh.

The teenage girl, who was unharmed in the incident, was pinned against a wall for ten minutes as the thugs carried out a sustained assault on Michael Tait.

The 24-year-old was punched by one of three men, knocking him to the ground.  The group then kicked him in the head while he lay collapsed on the pavement.

The incident happened near a road underpass in the Dalry area of the city, a notorious hotspot for knife attacks.

Despite having money and valuables on them, the gang snatched just one iPhone before fleeing the scene, leaving Laura Corrieri, 19, and Michael behind.

Michael, who was discharged from Edinburgh Royal Infirmary yesterday afternoon (tue), said he was “very angry” about the attack.

“I feel OK, but I don’t look OK. My nose is sore and my lip is badly swollen.

“I’m very angry at the culprits and I’m angry at myself. After all that, they only stole my mobile phone.”
