Police seek witnesses to attack on a woman

The woman ran off towards the Cowgate

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man apparently attempted to pull a woman down a city lane.

The pair were seen at around 3am today (Fri) by a doorman at the Rush Bar on Robertsons Close, Edinburgh.

He went to the woman’s assistance, allowing her to break free and run off towards the Cowgate.

Police responded and detained a man who is currently assisting with their enquiries.

Detectives are now urging anyone who saw anything suspicious to come forward and are also keen to trace the woman who was involved.

A police spokesman said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding this incident and anyone with information that can assist with our investigation is asked to contact police immediately.

“In particular, we would like to trace the woman reported to have been grabbed and would ask her to get in touch as soon as possible.”

Anyone with any information can contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131, or the charity Crimestoppers in confidence and complete anonymity on 0800 555 111
