Man jailed for killing friend

David Nairn was sentenced to 20 years in prison

A MAN has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after murdering his friend at a flat in Edinburgh.

David Nairn (26) was convicted of the murder of the murder of Alan Ross (46), at the High Court in Livingston.

Nairn attacked Mr Ross at a flat in Pilton Drive North in the early hours of Sunday, February 27, stabbing him a number of times. He then sent fire to the flat in a bid to cover his tracks

Emergency services were called to the flat around 2.30am, Mr Ross’s body was discovered within, and Nairn was arrested at his home the same day.

A police spokesman said: “This was a vicious attack on an innocent man who had little chance of defending himself from someone who is clearly a violent and dangerous character.

“We hope that today’s conviction brings some comfort to Mr Ross’s friends and family, who have suffered a distressing ordeal as a result of David Nairn’s actions.”
