Girl attacked in apparent unprovoked attack

Police are keen to speak to the driver who stopped following the assault

A TEENAGER girl has been assaulted after by a woman driving a passing car.

The 13-year-old girl was with a group of three friends in Dumfries when the incident happened at around 6.30pm on Monday.

The woman is believed to have been travelling in a blue car which stopped near the group.

She got out, verbally abused the girl and assaulted her before driving off.

A man following in a car stopped to check the victim was alright before driving off.

While the girl was not injured in the police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward. They are particularly keen to speak to the man who stopped his car.

The assailant is described as being in her 40s or 50s, of average build with blond hair.
