Dog destroyed after savaging sheep

Police are still hunting for the dog's owner

A DOG which savaged a flock of sheep at a Scots farm has been destroyed.

The Staffordshire terrier-type dog killed four animals and injured another 15 in the attack at Newbarns Farm, Inverkeilor on January 3.

It is understood that police are still hunting for the dog’s owner.

The alarm was initially raised by two dog walkers who discovered a sheep dead at the side of the road and saw the black and brown dog still in the field.

The girl ran to the farmhouse  while her boyfriend restrained the dog with his belt.

The dog was later taken away by Tayside Police who have been appealing for help to trace the owner of the dog and the group of people who were in the area at the time.

Anyone who can assist with inquiries should call Tayside Police on 0300 111 2222, or speak to any police officer. Alternatively information can be passed anonymously via the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
