Toddler dies in Mother’s Day tragedy

A SCOTS toddler died on Mother’s Day following an accident in a hot tub at her family home.

The 18-months old, who has not been named by police, is said to have fallen into the tub while playing in the garden at home in Bathgate, near Edinburgh.

Paramedics rushed to the scene after her distraught parents raised the alarm and she was rushed to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh.

Neighbours called the accident an “absolute tragedy”

The girl, who has a four-year-old sister, died the following day.

Her parents are being comforted by relatives at their West Lothian home this week.

Neighbours, from the Balbardie area of the West Lothian town, said they were shocked to see ambulances and police cars descend on the area on Sunday.

One said: “It’s an absolute tragedy. She was a gorgeous wee thing.

“Her parents had only been here for about four years but everybody feels absolutely heartbroken for them.

“Nobody should have to go through that.”

A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said: “Police were called to an address in Bathgate on Sunday March 18 following an apparently tragic

accident where a toddler was found injured at the property.

“The child was taken to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh, where she died the following day.

“The circumstances surrounding this incident are being fully explored by police to establish exactly what occurred at the address.”
