Thief leaves apology note after returning stolen bike

A GUILTY thief returned a stolen bicycle with a bar of chocolate and a letter of apology.

The purple mountain bike was taken from a communal hallway of a house in Heathhall, Dumfries and Galloway.

Police say the theft happened between 11.40pm on Sunday and 2.35pm the next day.

But just hours later the astounded owner discovered that the bike had been returned with the gift and note.
