Woman shaken after city bag snatch

POLICE in Edinburgh are appealing for witnesses following a bag snatch that happened in Carlton Terrace on Friday (April 27).

The 26-year-old victim was walking along Royal Terrace in the direction of Carlton Terrace around 11.20am, when she was approached from behind by the main suspect, who grabbed her handbag from her shoulder.

He ran back along Royal Terrace and handed the bag containing a mobile phone and purse to the other suspect, also male, and they made off through the park area between Royal Terrace and London Road, possibly in the direction of Leith Walk.

Both suspects are described as white, late teens to early twenties, and 5ft 7ins tall.

The first suspect is described as having a slim build, dark eyes, with short dark hair.  He was wearing a bright yellow baseball cap, a black and silver scarf or snood, and dark clothing.

The second suspect is further described as having a slim to medium build.

A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said: “Thankfully the victim wasn’t injured in the incident, however she was left shaken as a result of what happened, and we are appealing for any information that can help us identify the two suspects.

“Anyone who was in the area of Royal Terrace or Carlton Terrace around 11.20am on Friday, who either witnessed the incident or saw the two suspects in the area, should contact police.

“Anyone else who recognises the description of the suspects, or who has any other information that can assist out inquiries, should also get in touch.”
