Motorcycle crash victim named

A MAN who died in a motorbike crash in Edinburgh has been named by police.

Daniel William Baird was  found dead on a walkway yesterday.

The 20-year-old was discovered at 5.45am on Monday, May 7 lying next to a motorcycle on the walkway running from the old ‘Big W’ car park at the Milton Link to The Jewel.

He sustained serious head injuries, and despite the best efforts of ambulance crews, he was pronounced dead on arrival at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

An 18-year-old man who had been on the motorcycle with him also sustained serious leg injuries.

Police believe the motorcycle may have collided with a tree but have yet to trace anyone who may have witnessed the incident.

A police spokesperson said: “While the two men were discovered at 5.45am, we have yet to determine exactly when the incident took place.

“We are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or who may have seen two men riding a motorcycle in the area in the early hours of bank holiday Monday 7th May.

“We are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident, however we need to fully establish the circumstances.

“We would appeal to anyone who may have any information about the incident to contact us immediately.”
