Ling Law, 25, posed with a 12-foot-long Burmese Python ahead of Chinese New Year on Sunday, which will bring in the year of the snake.

Ling, who moved to Scotland when she was four from Hong Kong, hoisted up the eight stone snake at Butterfly & Insect World in Edinburgh in the last days of the current year of the tiger.

Ling, from Edinburgh, said she was looking forward to a big family meal to celebrate the new year: “We normally have a big family dinner.

“We get all the family round and cook a massive feast.

“It’s also traditional to bathe in leaves – we take leaves off of mandarins and boil them.”

Elders in the family traditionally give younger members red envelopes full of money, she added.
