Newborn baby found on park bench in Edinburgh

POLICE are appealing for information after a newborn baby was found abandoned on a park bench.

Officers in Edinburgh are concerned for the wellbeing of the mother of the baby girl, who was found on a park bench in Hailesland Park today (Thur). 

The baby girl was discovered on the bench behind Kilncroft Stair,  at about 12.55pm by a passer-by who immediately contacted police.

The baby girl was found on a bench in Hailesland Park at 12.55 today. 

 

There was no sign of the baby’s mother in the area, who medics advise will require urgent medical attention.

The baby has been taken to Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where she is being cared for by staff. 

Chief Inspector Richard Thomas said: “We are greatly concerned for the wellbeing of this baby girl’s mother, and are urging her to seek medical attention. 

“We would ask anyone who might know who the mother is to encourage her to see a doctor urgently.”
