Edith Bowman urges organ donations after cousin’s death

DJ Edith Bowman has revealed her cousin died a few weeks ago – and saved a life by donating her organs.

The Radio One DJ tweeted a heartfelt message to her Twitter followers this morning , supporting National Transplant Week.

She wrote: “My cousin passed away a few weeks ago, she was a donor & has already saved another life. It’s National Transplant Wk.”

Bowman, 39, also posted a link to a page where people can sign up as organ donors.

Her followers posted their condolences, with broadcaster Emma Freud saying “oh honey I am so sorry” and @freemanbabe saying “my condolences.”

Earlier this month it was reported Bowman was travelling to her hometown of Anstruther, Fife after the death of a young, close relative.

She traveled without partner Tom Smith, who is touring Europe with his band Editors.

In 2010 Bowman revealed her nine-year cousin Suzie died of cancer when she was eight.

Her mother Eleanor also battled cancer after being diagnosed in 2006.

The star has been involved in promoting organ donation and last year was a judge for the “Organ Donation Through A Lens” competition.

Bowman also urged members of the public to “pass it on”, asking people to tell their friends and family about the NHS donor register and urging them to sign up.
