Based on the book by Diana Gabaldon, the series stars Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan.

It tells the story of Claire Randall, a married combat nurse from 1945 who is mysteriously swept back in time to 1743.

She is forced to marry Jamie Fraser, a chivalrous and romantic young Scottish warrior.

Fife locations that feature in the series include Culross, Falkland and Aberdour.

Alistair Bruce, the chairman of Fife Tourism Partnership, said: “Tourism businesses and visitor attractions value the benefit of working together and Outlander presents a new and exciting opportunity, with tour, hotel and restaurant bookings already growing in 2015.

“Since the launch of our Outlander Facebook and Twitter pages, interest has been fantastic.”

The Kingdom of Fife has been attracting filmmakers for decades going back to directors such as Alfred Hitchcock.
