Dynamic Earth marks International Astronomy Day with weekend of fun

A WEEKEND of “space-themed fun” is being hosted by Edinburgh attraction Dynamic Earth this weekend (April 25-26).

To celebrate International Astronomy Day this Saturday, Dynamic Earth is putting on Showdome film favourites, Astronaut, We are Astronomers, We are Aliens and Back to the Moon for Good, taking viewers into an anti-gravity experience amongst the stars without leaving their seats.

The four films cover all manner of space-related topics, from the global collaboration, technology and dedication required to answer the unresolved questions of the Universe in We are Astronomers, to learning what it takes to live beyond our atmosphere in Astronaut.

All the films are screened with surround sound and projected onto a 360 degree dome, providing a fully immersive cinematic experience.

The narrators include Ewan McGregor, David Tennant and Harry Potter star Rupert Grint.

Along with these virtual trips into space, visitors can also enjoy family friendly astronomy activities and a free gift.

Commenting on Space Weekend, Eilidh Massie, marketing manager, said: “It seemed only right that we should honour International Astronomy Day by showing all four of our favourites, along with some additional ‘out of this world’ fun.

“It’s impossible not to be intrigued by the history and mystery of the Universe, and we’re sure the day will inspire visitors old and young.”

International Astronomy Day is held all over the world on the Saturday closest to the first quarter moon.
