Rt Rev John Chalmers  had already planned to take part in the Munro Challenge for Christian Aid, but is now urging others to join him and to donate to the emergency fund.

The Munro challenge will involve people climbing up to 70 Munros –  Scottish hills over 3,000 ft high – this weekend.

Rev Chalmers said: “I have spent my whole life telling people that I cannot explain why tragedy overtakes some and not others.

“This week I am perplexed once again. I have nothing to say which adequately expresses my sorrow and sadness for the people of Nepal.

“They cannot recover from this catastrophe without help from every possible source around the world, so get sponsored and come with me on Saturday as we walk and pray for them.”
