Hibernian striker Farid El Alagui has issued a cheeky welcome to Mark Warburton after his former Brentford boss was unveiled as Rangers’ new manager.

El Alagui joined Brentford in 2012 after an incredible season with Falkirk in which he scored 28 goals and he worked alongside Warburton during his stint with the Bees.

However, their time together once Warburton was elevated from coach to manager in December 2013 was short-lived, with El Alagui making only three substitute’s appearances before being farmed out on loan to Dundee United.

Warburton is now fully expected to steer Rangers to the Championship title next season ahead of Hibs, who most anticipate will be their nearest challengers.

However, El Alagui, currently on holiday in his homeland, has offered a tongue-in-cheek welcome, indicating he hopes his old boss does not get things all his own way next term.

The Frenchman tweeted: “(I) wish all the 2nd or 3rd or 4th best to Mark Warburton.”
