Ewan McGregor sets out his Obi-Wan Kenobi vision on Twitter

EWAN McGregor excited Star Wars fans around the world this morning by saying he wants to make a new film focussing on Obi-Wan Kenobi.

The Scot, who starred as the famous Jedi Knight in three Star Wars films, said he’d “be happy to be back in the cloak”.

He has even thought about when the films could be set, opting for a spin-off taking place in the timeframe between Episodes III and IV.

The 44-year-old actor was on Twitter until the early hours of the morning complaining that he couldn’t sleep.

But he put the time to good use, chatting to Star Wars fans about his ideas for the franchise created by George Lucas.

Fan Logan Galvan, who appeared to be wearing a Sith cloak in his account picture, asked: “Is it true you’re in talks for an Obi-Wan movie?!”

McGregor replied: “No not true. I’m up for it though. I’d like to do the story between Ep 3 and 4. I’d be happy to be back in the cloak.”

Obi-Wan Kenobi was last seen in Episode III taking a baby Luke Skywalker to the desert planet of Tatooine to live his with aunt and uncle.

There follows a significant gap before Obi-Wan Kenobi returns in Episode IV as an older and wiser Jedi, played by Alec Guinness.

In that film the character saves an adult Luke Skywalker and droid CP30 from a Tusken Raider attack.

The online conversation has sparked new speculation about what direction the much loved franchise will take.

The response from McGregor has already got more than 300 retweets and 650 favourites.

Follower Andy McKillen commented: “I’d love to see you in it. A lot needs answered on what happened with Obi Wan after the clone wars.”

Jonathan Testardi tweeted: “I think all your fans would be extremely happy as well… myself included. It’s not @starwars without Obi-Wan!”

While Jake Miller added: “I’d cry for 28 years if this happened.”

Earlier this year the Scot created a frenzy around the prospect of starring in a Trainspotting two film.

It was reported that a rift between him and director Danny Boyle has been healed and the project was “full steam ahead”.
