Former Rangers midfielder Hutton and experienced striker Heffernan have landed short-term contracts after initially going on trial with James Fowlers’ side.

Hutton made ten appearances in the Championship for Rangers last season before being released by the Ibrox club earlier this summer.

The 24-year-old came through Rangers’ youth academy and went on to make a memorable start against Manchester United in the Champions League five years ago.

Irishman Heffernan, 33, who spent the second half of last season at Dundee – has also turned out for Hibs and Kilmarnock.

Both players impressed Fowler in a closed-doors match against Carlisle last week and are set to go straight into the squad for tomorrow’s trip to Livingston.

Hutton tweeted: “Delighted to have signed for Queen of the South until January, here’s to a new challenge.

“Thank you for all the messages, much appreciated.”

A Queens statement read: “We can confirm that former Rangers midfielder Kyle Hutton and former Kilmarnock and Hibernian striker Paul Heffernan, who finished last season with Dundee, have this morning both signed contracts with the club that will take them through to January.”
