Experienced striker Ryan Stevenson has signed a permanent deal with Ayr United until the end of the season, just 24 hours after negotiating his release from Partick Thistle.

And there was further good news for the Honest Men yesterday when manager Ian McCall confirmed that marksman Jordan Preston had extended his loan deal from Blackburn Rovers for the remainder of the campaign.

Former Hearts player Stevenson initially rejoined his boyhood heroes on a month-long loan at the start of December and made three starts for the Somerset Park side.

Preston first moved to Ayr on loan last February and has netted seven goals in 20 appearances this term.

McCall said: “We are delighted to get Ryan signed up and hopefully we can tempt him to stay longer than this season.

“He has been really unlucky so far to have joined in the middle of an injury crisis which has stopped us from being able to play him where he is most effective.

“Ryan is an extremely fit guy, however, what he did lack was match fitness which is getting better week by week. There is no doubt he will be a huge player for us.

“I am also delighted to get Jordan’s deal confirmed until the end of the season.

“Jordan is a young guy who has lots of improvement in him, he’s very fit and works hard.

“He’s got seven goals already this season but he knows he should be into double figures by now.

“Depending what league we are in next season we just might be able to keep him as he loves it here.”
