Cowdenbeath have recruited former Aberdeen youngster Kieran Gibbons on loan from Livingston for the rest of the season.

The midfielder, who captained the Dons’ under-20s to the SPFL Development League title last term, joined Livingston in the summer and has made 20 starts in 23 appearances for the West Lothian outfit.

However, with new Lions manager David Hopkin keen to put his own stamp on the side he inherited from Mark Burchill, he has decided to allow the 20-year-old to move on.

Cowdenbeath manager Colin Nish is thrilled with the capture after trailing Gibbons in the summer and searching for a play-maker in recent weeks to replace Andy Murdoch following the Rangers player’s return to Ibrox and subsequent move on loan to Queen of the South.

Nish said: “He was a player I thought about in the summer but Livingston were also interested and it was hard for us to get him ahead of Livingston because of them playing in a higher division.

“But we were looking around for a replacement for Andy Murdoch after he left and we believe Kieran is the right one.”
