‘Best defender in League Two’ agrees East Fife deal

East Fife boss Gary Naysmith has declared Jonathan Page the best defender in League Two after the former Motherwell and Dunfermline stopper penned a new contract with the Methil men.

The 26-year-old has signed a deal until the summer of 2017 and Naysmith reckons it is a piece of business which represents a statement of intent from the the Fifers.

Page has made 30 appearances for East Fife this term and has been integral to their recent run of just one defeat in nine fixtures, which has seen them move to within two points of league leaders Elgin.

“Everybody knows how much I think of Pagey,” Naysmith told the East Fife website. “I think he is the best centre-half in the league.

“It is a big signing for us to get him tied up and, to be fair to Pagey, it’s never been about the money.

“He’s different class and I think it looks good for the club and the fans that people want to commit their future to the club.”
