Scots to take centre-stage at Stade Velodrome when Marseille face Athletic Bilbao

Scottish referee Craig Thomson will oversee Steven Fletcher’s European bow with Marseille this evening.

The Paisley-born whistler has been selected to take charge of the French giants’ Europa League last-32 clash against Athletic Bilbao.

Craig ThomsonThomson, whose last domestic assignment was Dundee’s 2-0 win over St Johnstone on Friday, has already officiated fixtures involving the likes of Galatasaray, Juventus and Valencia this season.

Fletcher is expected to be in the Marseille squad for the mouth-watering first leg clash at the imposing Stade Velodrome, having been added to their European roster for the knock-out stages of the competition.

And the Scotland international will hope to continue what has been a bright start to his career in the Cote d’Azur following his shock deadline day loan switch from Sunderland.

The former Hibs favourite has already made three appearances for Michel’s men and scored his maiden goal for the club in a 2-0 French Cup win over Trelissac last week.
