Morton midfielder Ross Forbes insists Wednesday’s stunning win at Hibs has set the standard for the rest of the season as Ton look to clinch a play-off place.

Jim Duffy’s side throughly deserved all three points at Easter Road after goals from Thomas O’Ware, Denny Johnstone and Forbes inflicted Hibs’ first home defeat since last April.

The Cappielow outfit are now only a point adrift of fourth place Raith Rovers ahead of tomorrow’s clash in Kirkcaldy and Forbes admits they will give themselves a great chance of challenging for promotion if they manage to replicate the performance in Leith in their remaining 11 games.

Forbes said: “That should set the standard now for the rest of the season.

“It’s disappointing if we don’t go and follow it up, it can’t be a one-off.

“We’ve got 11 games left and we need to try and get as many points as we can and see where that takes us.

“We’ve got one eye on the play-offs, but we’ll take it week-to-week.

“We can’t get carried away with this performance. It will count for nothing if we don’t back it up on Saturday.

“We’ve always had belief, we had it last year as well.

“Our target all season is just about getting as many points on the board as possible and we’ll see where that takes us at the end.”

After weathering an early storm, Forbes is adamant that Morton’s victory in Edinburgh was no fluke.

He added: “I think we thoroughly deserved it and I don’t think 3-0 flattered us.

“It took us time to settle in the first 15 minutes. It could have been a different game had they taken their chances.

“We enjoyed it, we got the goal and that settled us. I thought we did brilliantly.

“We’ve taken a point at Rangers this season and it seems to suit us playing away from home.”
