FORMER Celtic striker John Guidetti is hopeful his first international goal for Sweden can win him a Euro 2016 starting berth alongside the legendary Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Sweden head coach Erik Hamren has already intimated he will start with Panathinaikos marksman Marcus Berg as strike partner for Ibrahimovic in their Group E opener against the Republic of Ireland next Monday.

However, Guidetti, who spent season 2014-15 on loan at Celtic from Manchester City, is optimistic his late strike in Sunday’s 3-0 victory over Wales will help press his case for a start at the tournament in France.

The 24-year-old said: “I am very happy – it was about time. I have hit the post (before), I have waited a long time for my first goal.

“He has said that Marcus is before me right now. Then it’s up to me. Erik chooses the team, but I have shown that I am dangerous.

“Marcus is a fantastic footballer. The only thing you can do is take the opportunity when you get it.”

Guidetti celebrated his goal by tucking the ball under his shirt and explained it was a tribute to his girlfriend, Sanna, who is currently pregnant.

The Celta Vigo player told Expressen: “I wanted to do it earlier but I finally got to do it. It was for our little baby to come and Sanna, who is incredibly strong in this pregnancy.”
