Scotland’s most “savage nan” goes viral after telling granddaughter she would be stunning if she lost weight

A woman has been dubbed Scotland’s most “savage nana” after telling her granddaughter to lose weight in front of thousands of her friends.

Mary Kennedy, 70, made the brutal comment after her granddaughter Chloe Gallacher updated her profile picture on Facebook.

Within ten minutes of the 19 year-old updating the picture straight-talking Mary took to the post to give her thoughts, writing: “How stunning would you be if you lost weight.”

The pretty teen changed her Facebook profile to this image.

The shocked teen from Alexandria, West Dunbartonshire quickly responded to the message, writing: “Aw, aye thanks very much nana!

“Dunno whether to laugh or cry right now. Nothing like a wee self confidence boost eh? Cheers doll.”

Friends took to the post to reassure the pretty teenager that she was beautiful they way she was, prompting her nan to step in again and agree.

Chloe’s nana’s response has since went viral receiving over 9,000 likes on Twitter

Dozens of other friends have seen the funny side of the message, dubbing her nanna an “absolute savage”.

Shortly after it was spotted by a Twitter user who shared the image by captioning it: “When your nana is savage as f***”

It has already had over 9,000 likes and almost 6,000 retweets on Twitter and gained hundreds of comments from relatable grandchildren across the world.

Nana Mary has become a hit over social media and been nicknamed “Savage nana”.

Sophie Carr wrote: “Basically what my nanny said to me.”

Kate Hayden said: “Literally my nan.”

And Jazz Scott wrote: “This has legit made me nearly p*** myself.”

Speaking about the post going viral, Chloe said: “She got quite upset because she thought people were taking it as if she was being nasty when that wasn’t the case.

Lots of Twitter users said their grandparents and mums were just as brutally honest.

“I didn’t think anything of it, my nana’s always like that and doesn’t hold back, she’s some women but we wouldn’t have her any other way.”

Straight talking Mary added: “I’m not very good on Facebook, I just go on there to see what’s going on.

“I probably should have private messaged it because it was just meant to be seen by her but I’m glad she took it well, I was only saying it in a nice way.

“The picture that came up was one of those modified ones so I thought ‘look how stunning she looks’. She’s got these beautiful big eyes like the ocean, you could just fall into them.

“She’s beautiful. It wasn’t meant as a dig. I was actually quite upset by some of the reaction because she got some digs, or well, I did.

“I’ve got ten grandchildren and one great grandchild and I’m very protective of them all. We are all very close so they all know me too well. I’m brutally honest if nothing else.”
