DUNFERMLINE are to appeal the red card dished out to Michael Moffat in Saturday’s defeat to Hibs.

Moffat was sent-off by referee Alan Muir in injury-time in the 3-1 loss for a foul from behind on Darren McGregor.

The striker’s challenge sparked an ugly melee that marred the end of another disappointing afternoon for the Pars.

Officials at East End Park have since reviewed footage of the incident and are convinced the 31-year-old’s clumsy tackle did not merit a dismissal.

They were in contact with the Scottish FA on Monday to inform the governing body of their intention to contest the sending off, with the paperwork due to be lodged at Hampden by Tuesday’s 3 pm deadline.

Chairman Ross McArthur said: “We believe it should not have been a red card and are going ahead with an appeal. Hopefully that will be successful.”
