Hibs head coach Neil Lennon has praised John McGinn’s attitude after the midfielder played in the weekend’s match with Falkirk – just hours after being involved with Scotland at Wembley.

The 22-year-old was in the squad for Friday’s bitterly disappointing 3-0 World Cup qualifying defeat at Wembley but got a flight straight back to Edinburgh after the game.

Despite getting home at 3am on Saturday morning, McGinn produced an impressive display in the 1-1 draw with their Championship promotion rivals and even set-up the equalising goal for Paul Hanlon.

neillennonThe draw moves the Leith side a point clear of Dundee United at the summit and Lennon was delighted he had McGinn at his disposal, despite conceding that the playmaker needs to improve his concentration levels.

Lennon said: “He was a real driving force again. It was a real all-round typical John McGinn performance, trying to drive the team on, and we needed more from some of the others.

“He’s an enigma, he does some brilliant things and then sometimes wth the simple things he loses concentration – but that’s all part of his education.”

Lennon was less complimentary about his team’s defending after John Baird headed in from a corner for ten-man Falkirk, who had Tom Taiwo sent off after just 24 minutes for a tackle on McGinn.

Lennon, speaking to Hibs TV, added: “We walked away with point and we’re top of the league. Can we improve? Absolutely.

“Is there a lot wrong with the performances? No, there’s not. Can we defend corners better? It can be better.”
