Former Rangers winger David Templeton has returned to football with Hamilton after signing a deal until the end of the season with the Premiership basement side.

The 28-year-old has not kicked a competitive ball since playing for Gers 19 months ago in a 3-1 victory over St Mirren.

After making only three appearances during the 2015/16 Championship winning campaign, Templeton was released by then manager Mark Warburton last summer.

Since then has failed to land deals with Dundee United and Raith Rovers following training stints at both clubs, and turned down an offer to join League Two outfit Edinburgh City.

Templeton also recently spent time with MLS outfit Vancouver Whitecaps during their January pre-season camp in Wales.

Despite being short of match fitness, Accies manager Martin Canning reckons the one-time Hearts player can help his side climb off the top-fight basement in the remaining nine matches.

An Accies spokesperson said: “The club is delighted to announce the signing of ex Rangers and Hearts winger David Templeton till the end of the season.”
