Amazon driver leaves package on doorstep “hidden” by doormat

AN Amazon delivery was left on a customer’s doorstep and partially “hidden” behind a doormat.

Prison officer Catherine O’Reilly knows more than most people about security and was amazed to return home to discover the bizarre bid to disguise the package.

A comical picture shows the baby bath seat – still in its original box – with the doormat laid against one side.

Catherine, from Bo’ness, near Falkirk, claimed the delivery driver failed even to leave a note, meaning she would have been none the wiser if the package, worth £22.50, had been stolen.

Amazon, whose biggest UK distribution warehouse is 20 miles away in Dunfermline, Fife, say they are investigating.

Catherine, 25, went on Amazon’s Facebook page to vent her frustration at the delivery, on November 26.

She wrote: “Thanks Amazon for hiding my parcel so well, I almost didn’t see it lying there on my front door step! Not in any packaging either (besides the item’s own box).

“Great job. Makes me wonder if I should purchase from Amazon again, not knowing if I’ll be able to find the next parcel or if it’ll be hidden in a better spot.”

Emma Bain responded to her post by claiming: “Amazon employees, even their delivery guys, have to meet a target per hour, but it is effecting other couriers because so many people are ordering from other sellers too. If I were you I would just go out to the shops.”

Speaking today, Catherine said: “It is such a stupid place to try and hide my parcel. I live on a busy street and anyone could have taken it.

“It was delivered sometime on Sunday (NOV 26), not sure what time as I was out most the day. I don’t know how long it was lying outside my front door like that.

“That picture was taken before I even touched it so that is exactly how it was left. There was no note left through the door either, so had it gone missing I would have been none the wiser.”

An Amazon spokesman said: “We take any complaint of this nature seriously and are working with the delivery company, which is investigating the matter.”
