Mum, 52, refused cooking sauce from Sainsbury’s – because it contains alcohol

A 52-YEAR-OLD mum was left furious and embarrased when she was refused sale of cooking sauce in Sainsbury’s – because it contains alcohol.

Alison Danino sent her daughter, Ria to their local store in Loughton, Essex on Tuesday to pick up Mirin cooking oil for a dinner party that night.

But the 22-year-old was was refused sale because it contains alcohol and she had forgotten to bring any I.D proving her age.

Alison later went back to the store with Ria and tried to purchase the incredient but was also refused – despite being nearly three times over the legal age to do so.

The Sainsbury’s cashier told Alison he couldn’t allow her to buy the product because he had already refused sale to her daughter.

Raging Alison later took to Facebook to vent her frustrating at the store after being forced to leave the store empty handed.

Posting on the Sainsbury’s official page, she wrote: “As I was holding a dinner party tonight what better place to do my shopping than Sainsbury’s. I had to have a scan so I sent my 22-year-old daughter ahead of me to purchase the ingredients.

“When I met up with her she told me that she couldn’t get the main ingredient Mirin sauce as she had no ID.

“I questioned what Mirin sauce actually contained and it does indeed have alcohol as an ingredient.

“I took it to the till to purchase to be told I was not allowed. I’m a 52-year-old woman, we were totally embarrassed and confused.”

She ended the post by saying that Sainsbury’s were going to lose her regular custom.

“I was very disappointed. I’m a faithful shopper in Sainsbury’s as I love the vegan range, but after this I shall no longer be a valued customer”, she added.

Speaking today (FRI), Alison said: “I didn’t know the sauce would have alcohol in it and you would think it would be in where the other alcohol products were.

“So I said fine I’ll come with you to get it and we both walked up to the till. The guy working said I’m sorry I can’t let you buy this product as I’ve already refused her, gesturing towards my daughter even though he probably wouldn’t know she was my daughter.

“So then I asked to speak to a manager who explained again what the other colleague had said. I thought ‘use your common sense’, then we both left the store without the sauce.”

Sainsbury’s today (fri) apologised for the incident and admitted, that on this occasion, they got it wrong.

A Sainsbury’s spokeswoman said: “This product contains alcohol and our colleagues are trained to follow Think 25, which means they will ask for ID from anyone who appears to be under the age of 25.

“We didn’t quite get it right on this occasion and we have apologised to Alison for the inconvenience.”

Two weeks ago Sainsbury’s customer Faye Bilsland criticised Sainsbury’s after she ended up with with stones and soil in her mouth from a Chicken and Four Grain salad.

The supermarket chain apologised to Faye and insisted that they have systems in place to prevent that sort of thing from happening.

And last September, Sainsbury’s customer Kerri Small was filmed screaming hysterically after she found a live spider in her salad while she was halfway through eating it.
