Best Mowing Technique in The Fall:

Yes, mowing your lawn during the fall season is absolutely necessary to maintain a good length of your grass. Mow your lawn throughout the fall and start gradually deceasing the mower height as you proceed. Remember that you can cut a maximum of 1/3rd the length of your grass blades at a time.

Reducing the size of your grass would allow the sunlight to fall on the crown of the grass and help it strengthen. Shorter grass is less likely to dry down during the fall season.

Rent An Aerator:

You can rent a good aerator for around $60 a day. Aerating your lawn’s soils is one of the best ways to allow the water, fertilizer and the soil to mix up. So, rent an aerator today and start punching some holes in your lawn. However, if your have a big lawn, and don’t have that much spare time to aerate it yourself, you can hire a landscaping contractor to do the work quickly and professionally for you.

Fertilizing in Fall:

This might look like an awkward idea if you’re new to gardening. But most of the people who fertilize their garden lawn only once a year do it in the fall.

The reason behind this is that the grass leaves don’t grow much during the winter, and so, the roots and rhizome of the grass would absorb any water and fertilizer applied during the fall season and would store it to start the spring in full bloom. Fertilizer would also help the grass roots grow much deeper during the winter.

The best time to fertilize your lawn is mid to late fall.

Filling All the Bald Spots:

Filling all the bald spots in during the fall season is much easier as the grass size is small and so, the new grass can catch up pretty fast with rest of the lawn. An easy way to do this is applying a lawn repairing mixture. You can find this mixture at any garden shop, it is ready to use and contains grass seed to help fill the bald spots quickly.

First of all, loosen up some soil around the bald spot, and then apply a thick layer of the lawn repairing mixture on the target area. Now continue to water every other day for some weeks and see the results!
