EIGHT friends from Kilmarnock are flying high after winning £1,000,000 in the EuroMillions draw on Friday 19 July 2019.

Thrilled members of the ‘Ayrshire Butterflies Syndicate’ couldn’t believe their luck when they matched a winning EuroMillions UK Millionaire Maker code, meaning they will receive an amazing £125,000 each.

The syndicate has been buying weekly tickets for six years with £150 being the biggest prize they have previously won. Members are already having great fun planning what they would like to spend their life-changing win on, with new houses, cars, exotic holidays, home renovations and, of course, family celebrations top of the list.

The members of the ‘Ayrshire Butterflies Syndicate’ who have opted to share their news are: Patricia Dixon (54), James Clark (43), Anne Murray Brown (54), Maria Vize (53), Kristeen Hilston (28) and Eve Allan (26). Two syndicate members have chosen to remain anonymous.

Syndicate leader Patricia said: “As a group we have played Lotto routinely twice a week but this was the first time since 2017 that we bought a EuroMillions ticket. It was a spur of the moment decision as we had some money left in the pot, but I’m certainly glad I did!

“I was with a friend who actually reminded me to check our ticket so I used the mobile app. I then got straight onto Camelot who confirmed the good news. Once the initial shock had worn off it was so much fun calling round everyone in the syndicate to tell them. As it was a Saturday afternoon, most were out and about so their reactions were absolutely priceless!

“I still have a folder with every ticket we’ve ever bought and any money we won normally just went towards a Christmas night out. This year will certainly be one to remember!”

When asked about the name ‘Ayrshire Butterflies’, Patricia said: “Butterflies signify endurance, change, hope and life. The two original syndicate members starting the syndicate almost six years ago signify endurance, the win will change our lives and gives hope to others that this could happen to them and, of course, that life is for living and to make the most of. Plus the fact the same butterfly keeps popping in and out through my window!”

Patricia bought the syndicate’s winning EuroMillions ticket from Tesco Extra in Kilmarnock. EuroMillions Millionaire Maker guarantees to create a millionaire in every draw but in the special EuroMillions Event draw on 19 July 2019 there were a total of 20 guaranteed £1,000,000 prizes to be won.  ‘Ayrshire Butterflies Syndicate’ scooped one of these special prizes with the raffle code TSRR83913.

All syndicate members have their own plans for how they want to spend their winnings, but for Patricia it’s particularly special as the money means she can now fulfil her dream to buy a new house for herself and her daughter.

Patricia said: “This is something I have been dreaming of doing for so many years and it feels fantastic to know that the worry has disappeared practically overnight.”

The National Lottery changes the lives of winners like the ‘Ayrshire Butterflies Syndicate’ as well as communities across the UK – players raise, on average, around £30M for National Lottery-funded projects every week.
