Scottish castle used as £20k-a-month refuge by Chris Pine goes on sale for £3m

A SCOTTISH castle used as a £20,000-a-month refuge by Holywood star Chris Pine has gone on sale for £3m.

Pine used Bardowie Castle to escape attention while filming Outlaw King last year and would no doubt have enjoyed everything from the private gym to the views over the loch of the same name.

The property in Milngavie, East Dunbartonshire, features a keep that was built in the 16th Century, 10 bathrooms, and eight bedrooms. There is also a stunning walled garden and tennis court.

A stone staircase leads to the great hall in the original castle keep, which was built in 1566. Additions were made to the building throughout the 17th and 18th centuries.

There is also a historical link to the Scottish outlaw Rob Roy, famously portrayed by Liam Neeson in the Holywood movie of the same name.

John Hamilton of Bardowie’s sister married in 1707 to Gregor “Black Kne”e MacGregor who was at the time the chieftain of the clan and the nephew of the infamous Rob Roy.

Sellers Clyde Property have described Bardow Castle on their website writing: “This magnificent family home has been meticulously restored and refurbished both internally and externally and affords spectacular panoramic views across the expansive gardens and private jetty, to the loch itself.

“Bardowie Castle enjoys an idyllic situation on the northern shores of Bardowie Loch surrounded by rolling countryside and lies at the end of the oldest lime, tree lined driveway in Scotland.”

Pine, 38, stayed there while filming the Netflix production about Robert the Bruce, in which he played the lead role.

The actor had been staying in the west end of Glasgow and wanted a place that offered more privacy, it was reported at the time, as well as “the fanciest place money could buy”.

The property has 10 acres of loch frontage and also includes two self-contained apartments that have recently been refurbished.
