Top Edinburgh chef announces historic festive feasts

One of Scotland’s leading private events chefs has teamed up with an historic country house to offer festive partygoers the chance to dine like kings and queens this Christmas.

Barry Bryson from Cater Edinburgh is working with Broomhall House at Charlestown, near Dunfermline, to help put golden era decadence back into festive feasting at the home of the family of the Bruce.

Guests will also get the rare opportunity to enjoy a tour of the historic house from Lord Charles Bruce himself, who will share his unparalleled knowledge and captivating stories about Broomhall.

Broomhall House has been a private family home, lived in, cherished and cared for, for more than 300 years, continued by the descendants of King Robert the Bruce. Broomhall also echoes the tradition of their original cellar, which stored the finest wine and champagne for serving to heads of state and government, by working with the very best merchants and buyers to accompany the dishes catered to guests.

Barry’s carefully crafted canapes, formal dining and Christmas-themed menus will take centre stage in Broomhall’s grand dining hall where kings and queens have been entertained over the years. A real Christmas tree, festive garlands, real log fires and candlelight will complete the warm festive glow.

Each canape and dish will showcase the very best of Scotland’s winter larder, including Barry’s special mulled wine cured Scottish salmon on toasted brioche, lobster cocktail with beetroot crackers, hand-dived scallops, oysters, rillette of goose, Highland venison, dark chocolate delice with toasted gingerbread and Black Forest meringue with plum jellies.

Barry is motivated and inspired by Scotland’s natural larder, creating seasonal menus that combine traditional and contemporary cooking techniques. He skilfully takes restaurant concepts and fine dining to the events platform, showcasing his modern Scottish food in a variety of unique venues and events spaces across Scotland and beyond. His enviable client portfolio includes some of the world’s most iconic luxury brands.

Commenting on his collaboration with Broomhall House, Barry said: “I’m incredibly excited to be collaborating with the stunning Broomhall House, creating a range of sumptuous festive dishes that will appeal to those looking for unique dining experiences in an opulent historic setting.

“The Bruce family have been part of Scottish history for centuries, making Broomhall House the perfect setting to showcase the best of Scotland’s natural larder this Christmas.”

Lord Charles Bruce added: “The decision by the Family of King Robert the Bruce to open the doors of Broomhall House to exclusive event opportunities was a momentous one.

“Christmas at Broomhall House stands apart from other festive dining offers. We aim to provide a truly unique and illuminating experience, uncovering lesser-known facts and stories that connect Broomhall to the world and across the ages.”

Broomhall’s festive packages start from £45 per person with a minimum booking of 30 guests. A minimum of 12 guests is required for Broomhall’s Banquet.
