Graphic images show body of cat pulled from pond by magnet fisher after it had been dumped in bag with brick

SHOCKING images show the remains of a cat that was dumped inside a weighted bag and found at the bottom of a pond.

Calum Black and his friends made the grim discovery while magnet fishing at a pond alongside Tullibody Road in Alloa, Clackmannanshire on Saturday.

The 19-year-old, from Edinburgh, stood and watched as his fellow magnet group members pulled out the heavy, black duffel bag excited to see what was inside.

Calum Black and his friends made the grim discovery while magnet fishing at a pond alongside Tullibody Road in Alloa, Clackmannanshire.

But they were shocked when they unzipped the bag and found a cat skull and bones wrapped up in a towel which had been weighed down by a heavy stone.

Calum, who goes magnet fishing on the weekends, said it was the “worst thing” he had ever seen during his time trawling through ponds, rivers and canals.

Speaking today, Calum, said: “Think this was definitely one of the worst things we’ve pulled out.

“We pulled it out and we should see the skull and the bones for the wee paw claws. There was that much mud in it we didn’t want to look any further.

“I’m just hoping it was dead already but to me it doesn’t look like that was the case.

“To me it looks like it’s been there for ages because of the amount of mud that was in there.”

Calum has been magnet fishing for the past year and says he spends most weekends searching for “hidden treasures” around Scotland’s rivers, canals, and reservoirs.

“It’s pretty much a hobby for me. Every weekend I go out and I’ve been doing it for about a year.

“You never know what you will find.

“We’ve found a few safes. One had £9 in there but I don’t think it was too old as it was the newer coins.

“We found a necklace in another one. Another bag we found had eight bricks in it and a knife so had obviously been dumped out there.

“Historic Scotland are trying to get us a licence to be able to cover the areas that haven’t been drenched out. They don’t want us to go to places which are drenched.

“At the moment we are trying to stick to ponds and small rivers.”

Calum posted about his gruesome discovery on his Facebook group Magnet Fishing Edinburgh, writing: “One of the members pulled in a duffle bag.

“Unfortunately the bag had cat remains in it.

“The bag had been weighed down with a big rock.

“We ended up taking the remains out and made a hole and put it in there.

“I just want to say it was a good day until the discovery and everyone that is taking up magnet fishing just beware of the items you find.”

Colin’s friend, Jay Haynes who was helping, wrote: “My worst find yet. Hopefully the last one is like that.”

And their other friend Ben Loughton, who was also involved in the magnet fishing that day, wrote: “I got excited thinking it was filled with watches.

“When you pulled the big rock out that had been used to anchor it to the bottom of the pond and then you pulled the skull out, absolutely cruel people about that shouldn’t have animals.”

The post attracted hundreds of comments from sickened animal lovers who were shocked by the findings.

One person wrote: “Jeez! Poor cats. Some people are horrible.”

“Well done to you all for cleaning out the pond. Hopefully no more finds like that.”

Another said: “Some cruel people out there.  They need hung [for] hurting animals. Scum.”

And another follower wrote: “That’s truly heartbreaking to read.

“I really don’t understand the human race sometimes and what goes through peoples heads.

“That poor poor cat must have been so scared.”
