Teen on murder rap over Edinburgh death

By Paul Thornton

A TEENAGER has appeared in court charged with the murder of a man who died over the weekend.

Paul Bonnar was killed after being hit by a car during the early hours of Sunday morning. It was the day before the father-of-one’s 31st birthday.

At Edinburgh Sheriff Court Lee Coyle, 16, appeared in private on petition charged with murder and attempting to defeat the ends of justice.

Mr Coyle, from Edinburgh, made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody following a brief hearing before Sheriff Kathrine Mackie.

In a statement issued through Lothian and Borders Police earlier this week Mr Bonnar’s wife Lorna spoke of her and their 12-year-old daughter’s devastation at losing him.

The family said: “Paul’s death in such tragic and sudden circumstances was a shock to us all.

“He touched the hearts of all who knew him and he was much loved.”
