Fife firefighters battle flat blaze

By Oliver Farrimond

BRAVE firefighters battled a blaze in snowy Fife yesterday.

Five fire engines were called to a first-floor flat engulfed in flames at Calder Drive, Glenrothes, and fought the blaze for almost an hour.

Fife Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that two people had been treated for injuries after being rescued from the flat before firefighters arrived just after 10am.

A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We received a call from Fire Fire and Rescue just after 10am asking for ambulance support.

“We sent two ambulances and treated two casualties for smoke inhalation.

“Although their injuries aren’t thought to be life-threatening at the moment, one of the casualties was subsequently taken to Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy.”

Fire teams managed to extinguish the blaze by 11am.
