Police appeal for help with mystery injuries

By Cara Sulieman

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man was found lying in the middle of the road in the early hours of Sunday morning after a night out.

It is not known if the man fell or was the victim of an assault and Lothian and Borders are hoping that other party-goers will be able to clear up the mystery.

The ambulance service received a call just before 5am this morning when the 37-year-old was found lying in the middle of Holyrood Road, Edinburgh.

He was rushed to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment – but the emergency services were unable to say what injuries he had sustained.

Before he was found in the road, the man had been out in the Cowgate and in club Studio 24 on the same road where he was later found.

He is described as being white between 5 foot 9 and 5 foot 10 inches tall with a shaven head and clean-shaven.

At the time of the incident he was wearing green combat shorts, a black hoodie and black leather shoes.

A spokesman for the ambulance service said: “We got a 999 call at 4.45am and an ambulance attended and he was taken to hospital.

“It is not clear what his injuries were or if he was unconscious when he was found.”

Police are asking for anyone who might have seen him after midnight to come forward to they can work out what happened.

They are also asking anyone who saw a disturbance on Holyrood Road to contact them on 0131 311 3131.
