Police appealing for witnesses after robbery

A WOMAN was knocked to the ground and kicked before her attacker ran off with her handbag.

The 42-year-old had just come from a Lloyds TSB cash machine at the foot of Leith Walk and was walking across Duncan Place in Edinburgh when she was approached by a man.

He knocked her over and kicked her several times before grabbing her handbag and running off towards Leith Links Gardens.

The police were contacted shortly after the attack at 6.20am on Thursday and are trying to track down the thief.

He is described as being white, 6ft tall with a slim to medium build.

A police spokesman said: “This has been an opportunistic attack by the suspect who saw a woman on her own and decided to take advantage.

“Fortunately, the victim did not require medical attention and received only minor injuries, but she was left extremely upset by what happened.

“Anyone who was in or around Duncan Place or the Leith Links area and has information that can assist with our investigation is asked to contact police immediately.”

Anyone with any information should contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131, or charity Crimestoppers.
